AmeriGlide Announces Winner of the Spring 2010 AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) February 16, 2010 -- AmeriGlide, a leading distributor of stair lifts (http://www.ameriglide.,com) and home mobility products, has announced the winner of their semi-annual scholarship contest: Matt Stafford of Cleveland, Alabama. Stafford's essay was selected to win by AmeriGlide's panel of judges from a pool of nearly 100 applicants. The essay, which is about wheelchair accessibility at Cleveland State University's campus, was considered a standout effort by the panel of judges of the AmeriGlide Scholarship Committee. As a result, Stafford will be awarded the $500 scholarship by AmeriGlide.

The AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship is a semi-annual contest available to full-time college students who use a manual or electric wheelchair and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants submit a 500-word essay in response to an essay question regarding wheelchair accessibility on their campus: how well it works, or how it could be improved. The AmeriGlide Scholarship Committee bases its decision on the merits of the essays submitted, although applicants are also encouraged to send references. The scholarship is awarded twice annually - once for the spring semester and once for the fall semester.

AmeriGlide is proud to recognize the achievements of this semester's winner. Matt Stafford is a sophomore at Cleveland State University, a budding journalist, and an overachiever. Stafford's essay, which argued for better accessibility solutions to one of the main buildings on campus, also highlighted certain often-overlooked details about using electric wheelchairs as a primary means of transportation. Namely, power consumption over the course of a full day at school is an often overlooked concern, according to Stafford.

David Ward, one of the judges residing on the AmeriGlide Scholarship Committee, had this to say of Stafford's essay: "Sometimes choosing the winner of this scholarship contest is a very difficult decision, but I didn't feel like that was the case this semester. We received many great essays from very talented students, but Matt's essay was a clear winner based on its good ideas, its subtle details, and its thoughtful prose." Stafford's essay earned a 1st-time ever unanimous victory from the AmeriGlide Scholarship committee.

AmeriGlide (http://www.ameriglide.com) is a premier brand in mobility solutions for senior citizens and the disabled. The next AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship contest, for fall 2010, will be awarded in September. The deadline for application submissions is July 31, 2010. With many great essays already submitted, the AmeriGlide Scholarship Committee looks forward to another competitive contest.
